National Bank Announces DEFCO Partnership

National Bank partners with Defence Forces to offer Agent Banking services Nairobi.

National Bank has announced a strategic partnership with the Defence Forces Canteen Organization (DEFCO), to provide Agent banking facilities within the barracks as the bank seeks to enhance its distribution networks across the country.

The bank will partner with 27 DEFCO shops across the barracks on Agent banking where customers will be able to withdraw, make deposits, check balances, get mini-statements pay school fees and buy goods and services at subsidized rates across the Country.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, National Bank Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Munir Sheikh Ahmed said that the partnership reflected National Bank’s commitment to taking financial and banking services closer to its customers.

“The partnership we have signed today with DEFCO will provide easy, innovative and convenient access to unlimited Agent banking services to the military officers residing in the barracks and by extension National Bank’s customers.” said Mr. Ahmed.

The partnership will also enable National bank to advance loan facilities to military officers residing in the barracks across the country. Commenting on the deal, the Managing Director DEFCO, Brigadier (Retired) Michael Macharia lauded the partnership with National Bank and said that it will go a long way towards offering affordable banking services within the barracks across the country.

“The dynamism in the banking sector has allowed for innovation and collaborations as banks seek different ways to meet the needs of their customers and this partnership is a testament to that effect,” said Macharia.

The Bank recently announced strategic partnerships with Kenswitch, the national payments switch provider, and Post Bank, as it moves to enhance its distribution networks across the country.

The new partnerships now provide all National Bank customers access to 1,200 Kenswitch’s ATMs services across East and Central Africa and also provision of agency banking services at the 99 Post Bank branches and 800 Post Bank Mashinani Agents countrywide.

The bank also launched its new internet application, Nat Connect and mobile application, NatMobile, which offers a convergence of solutions delivering both banking services and financial information on customer’s mobile phones and through the internet.
